Today, car audio manufacturers help shape the rules of the car audio ‘sound off', as well as sponsor individual competitors. With the improvement of car audio technologies, also came the focus in these competitions of sound improvement. However, these are not as heavily weighted in the point casting system, as technical installation and sound quality.

Car audio competitions are often managed by car audio manufactures, who make the technologies used. Hence, it is expected that competitors use the newest technologies and the best out there, in turn creating the best car audio system possible.  It not only shows off some of the best audio systems and the competitors' technical knowledge and skills, but allows manufacturers to see what they can improve upon.

First of all most professional car audio installers will have been certified at some point in their career. Any decent professional will have a certification; however, this does not necessarily mean they are really good.

An excellent installer will always keep his patience and will never rush a job. Find out what the average time of installation is for your car audio system and make sure he or she leaves enough time that is not too much less than the average. Ask as well if he is familiar with the installation process of your car audio system and how he would go about it.

Ask him further questions, which will indicate his level of competence. Inquire about his or her understanding of the laws of electricity, how he would make any alterations correctly and safely, and his understanding on the usage of tools. These all vital bits of knowledge any good car audio fitter would know.

Having the right tools is vital to this profession. Inquire exactly what tools the fitting may require. Any good fitter should be able to pretty much answer straight away, without too much hesitation.

Lastly, a good fitter will always keep up to date with the latest technology. Don't expect him to know straight away, as he may have to go away to research the product to complete the harder and more complex areas of installation. However, a good car audio fitter will always freely admit that he is not as familiar with the product as others (as you can't be fully familiar with everything). Hi, i have an old car audio player and i wish to modify it so that i can use the power supply from my room power socket and listen in my room. But i check the wire, there are red and yellow. Which one i should connect to the +12V?

Whoa, that's AC power coming from your room, and the car audio player runs on DC current.
If you plug the player into an AC current, you'll fry it. AC current runs on 110v or 220v depending on where you live, and the electricity flows differently than DC which only flows in one direction.

You need an AC-DC power converter, or a battery charger.

How to Find a Good Car Audio Fitter

The first influence upon the car audio system was the radio. Invented in the early 1900's (around the same time cars became popular) it however didn't gain commercial status until the 1920's when the first commercial boomed occurred.  In 1922, a historic date for the car audio system, George Frost was the first person known to experiment with car radio with his own Ford car. Then in 1925, the first official listing of a car radio occurred, which was followed in 1927 with the first mass produced car radio, the Transitone TH-1.

In 1930, two famous American manufacturer brothers, Paul and Joseph Galvin manufactured the 5T71, which was to be under the brand name of ‘Motorola'. Across the globe, Germany's Blaupunkt fitted their first commercial car radio in 1932 and Crossley's of the UK started fitting them from 1933 onwards.

Up until till the 1950's AM was the common car radio. In 1952, it was Blaupunkt that introduced the first FM car radio. Fm listening was not fully popular or available till at least a decade later. The 1950's was a time of great change for the car audio system, as the seek button was introduced – a button which is still available on car audio systems today.

The 1960's saw tape players arrive on the car audio scene. Reel to reel tape players were the first arrival, however, their bulkiness made sure that they were not to become popular. In 1964, Phillips invented the compact cassette and Lear invented the 8 track cartridge in competition with this.  The 8 track tape made its way into the Fords' 1965 cars, but it would not be until 1970 that the compact cassette nudged its way into the car.

The 1970's and 80's saw FM radio stations become exceedingly popular, however, AM radio responded by offering more talks shows and sport channels for its listeners.  Car radio had finally expanded, giving its listeners more freedom of choice. In 1982 - a momentous moment occurred - the Compact disc or CD was invented Sony and Phillips, which was to be added in car audio systems in 1984 for the first time.  Subsequently to this, CD changers appeared in car audio systems.

The years after this, saw CD's replace the cassette, the DVD and Mp3 being introduced to the car audio market. In the last few years, we have also utilized Bluetooth technology to connect our mobile phones (smart phones) to our car audio system, making it not only useful for entertainment but for practical reasons too.

Check the model of car stereo which you are planning to install in your car – There are several car stereo models available in the car accessory market. There are certain car audio systems that will not fit perfectly with the car automotive system.
